Accreditation, ticket sales and access control for the 2012 African Cup of Nations

Ticket sales, access control, and accreditation system
Estadio de Malabo

The 2012 Africa Cup of Nations (official name: Orange Africa Cup of Nations) was the 28th edition of the tournament, held in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea from January 21 to February 12, 2012. It was the second time in the history of the AFCON that the tournament was hosted by two countries and the first time that three venues were selected simultaneously.

In collaboration with AUDITEL, BinaryIS took part in the integration and installation of the Access Control, Ticket Sales, and Accreditation System. The system was implemented in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon during the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ticket Printing

Creation and configuration of numbered seating capacities for stadiums in Equatorial Guinea. Printing of tickets for all tournament matches.

Access Control - bAccess

  • Access control server in each stadium
  • PDAs for VIP access management and incident handling.
  • Tripod turnstiles for VIP access.
  • Gates adapted for people with reduced mobility.
  • Online/offline functionality with 1D and 2D barcode readers.

Accreditation Centers

The CAF organization selected Acrenet as the unified accreditation system, presenting several challenges:

  • Deployment of six accreditation centers across the two host countries.
  • Online access for accreditation collection, cancellation, or reprinting at any center.
  • Global server with remote access for real-time monitoring.
  • Availability of the platform in multilingual (English, French and Spanish), to facilitate the use of the platform by the CAF organisation, and by the COCAN GE and COCAN GABON organisations in each country.
  • The accreditation had to be valid in both countries and at the different venues, so it was necessary to set up different access permissions, different zones, stadiums and accredited profiles customised for each venue.
  • Generation of unique barcodes compatible with the access control system.

The accreditation process during the event went smoothly and was a real success thanks to the work of the organisation in each country, the CAF and our technicians who were deployed to provide support during the event.
