Usually in events where a shorter response time is needed and do not want to rely on third-party communications infrastructure, the local server is used, which can be communicated through the cloud with different ticketing providers or ticketing systems, accreditations or subscribers, the system collects and stores locally all the data to give a response to each access control device in record time.
In events where the response of the access control server should not be instantaneous, or the response time is not so important, it can be in the cloud, and it can even be the case that for the same event several servers of different types can be used at the same time.
In addition to response times, there are sometimes other factors that may determine whether the access control server is installed on the same LAN or may allow it to be all on the WAN, such as whether the codes or documents to be validated are already defined in a white list (for allowed codes) or black list (for disallowed codes) or are interpretable by the validating device itself, the response is no longer so dependent on the server and the validation device itself could decide whether to validate or deny access, requiring only communication with the control server to notify the readings and actions taken:
